Reconstruction Before & After Case 57

This patient presented with a biopsy-proven basal cell carcinoma of the inner aspect of the right lower eyelid. Dr. Phan recommended excision with immediate reconstruction on the same day. One-third of the eyelid was removed in a full-thickness wedge fashion to ensure complete removal of the skin cancer. A muscle-skin flap from the lateral canthus was then used to lengthen the eyelid, allowing the eyelid margin and lash line to be meticulously reapproximated with internal and external sutures.

Patient, pictured here 1 month after left lower eyelid basal cell carcinoma excision and reconstruction, demonstrated natural restoration of the eyelid, with excellent preservation of the natural height, contour, and function of the lid.
