Case Details
This patient in her 70s presented with concerns that she could no longer see her eyes and appeared sleepy all the time.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted severe eyelid ptosis, worse on the right side. To a lesser degree, the patient also demonstrated dermatochalasis, greater on the left than the right. The left-sided heaviness was more pronounced because of brow ptosis on that side. To address most of these changes through a single incision, Dr. Phan recommended bilateral external ptosis repair and blepharoplasty.
Incisions were made through the eyelid crease to remove excess skin and to shorten and tighten the levator muscles, allowing them to lift the upper eyelids higher.
Patient, pictured here 10 days after bilateral external ptosis repair and blepharoplasty, demonstrated wider, brighter, more engaging, and more symmetrical eyes. The eyelid folds were restored to a more natural position and contour, and patient appeared refreshed and more like herself again.
