Case Details
This patient in her 70s presented with the concern for the loose skin of her upper and lower eyelids. She looked angry and old and certainly not how she normally felt.
During evaluation, Dr. Phan determined there was brow ptosis in addition to excess skin of the upper eyelids. Of the lower eyelids, Dr. Phan noted more crepey skin than excess skin. (Crepey skin is thin, loose, sometimes saggy and almost always with fine-wrinkled texture, resembling crinkled crepe paper, and is predominantly the result of loss of collagen and elastin and sun damage.)
To address these changes of the eyes, Dr. Phan recommended bilateral brow lift and upper and lower blepharoplasty with CO2 laser. The brow lift would open up the eyelids, and that would soften and brighten the eyes, while blepharoplasty would remove the remaining redundant skin. CO2 laser would resurface and tighten the crepey skin and induce collagen production. Removing skin would not address skin texture. Since patient was not prepared for significant transformation and downtime involved with brow lift and CO2 laser, respectively, she opted for the blepharoplasty alone.
Patient, pictured here 3-months post bilateral upper and lower lid blepharoplasty, demonstrated the natural rejuvenation she hoped for. She appeared relaxed, refreshed and not overdone.
