Case Details
This patient in her 80s presented with concerns that her eyes appeared sleepy all the time and that she looked older than how she felt.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted upper eyelid ptosis and dermatochalasis. Ptosis occurs when the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelids, called the levator and Müller’s muscle, become stretched, thinned, and weaker over time and no longer elevate the eyelids effectively. Dermatochalasis, on the other hand, develops as the skin loses collagen and elasticity and becomes thinner and more redundant with age. To address these changes, Dr. Phan recommended ptosis repair and blepharoplasty.
Patient, pictured here 1 month after bilateral external ptosis repair and blepharoplasty, demonstrated wider, brighter, and more engaging eyes. By removing the excess skin and re-draping the skin and the fat, the upper eyelids appeared softer and fuller. Patient looked naturally refreshed and more aligned with how she felt.
