Case Details
This patient in her 70s presented with concerns that her eyes appeared tired and desired natural, brighter eyes.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted reduced eye openings, wherein the eyelid margins came down to the center of the pupils, also known as lid ptosis. This change was caused by thinning, stretching, and weakening of the muscles responsible for lifting the upper eyelids.
To address this lid ptosis, Dr. Phan recommended bilateral external ptosis repair. Dr. Phan also recommended combining blepharoplasty to the repair at the same time, to prophylactically address the expected exacerbation of heavy eyelid folds after ptosis repair. Through carefully placed incisions hidden within the natural eyelid creases, Dr. Phan tightened the levator muscles to improve eyelid elevation and conservatively removed excess skin to soften the lid folds.
Patient, pictured here 1 months after bilateral external ptosis repair and blepharoplasty, demonstrated naturally brighter eyes. Patient looked refreshed--a subtle restoration to yester-years, without appearing overdone.
