Case Details
This patient in her 60s presented with concerns that her eyes made her look tired and not herself, an active, vibrant person.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted eyelid margins resting near the center of the pupils, a finding of lid ptosis. This occurred because the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelids thinned, stretched and weakened over time. Dr. Phan recommended combining bilateral external ptosis repair with blepharoplasty. The former involved incisions made in the eyelid creases to access the muscles and tighten them, allowing the muscles to lift the eyelids more effectively. Skin was removed from the eyelids to limit the expected exacerbation of heavy skin folds once the eyelids successfully elevated higher.
Patient, pictured here 6-months post bilateral external ptosis repair with blepharoplasty, demonstrated naturally enlarged eye openings. Patient appeared refreshed and her vibrant self again, without looking overdone.
