Case Details
This patient in her 60s presented with the concern of heavy hooding of the outside corner of her eyes. The downward slope of the eyelid folds made her eyes appeared sad and tired.
During evaluation, Dr. Phan noted excess skin laterally on both sides that were exacerbated by the dropping of the tails of the brows. (The frontalis muscles, responsible for lifting the eyebrows up, are typically thinner from the brow arches out to the temples. As these thinner muscles age, they become less active in holding the brows up, allowing the brows to drop downward. Once the brows reach the orbital rim or below, they push down into the eyelid folds and cause them to appear heavier or fuller.) Dr. Phan, therefore, recommended bilateral upper blepharoplasty as well as browpexy to help stabilize the tails of the eyebrows.
Patient, pictured here 1-month post bilateral browpexy and blepharoplasty, demonstrated less downward slope of the eyebrows and folds laterally. The eyes appeared brighter. The expected rosaic discoloration would continue to subside with time.
