Case Details
This patient in his 60s presented with concerns that his eyelids appeared heavy, while the eyes looked smaller over time.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted the appearance of decreased eye opening due to heavy hoodings, as a result of combination of drooping of the eyebrows and redundant eyelid skin folds, and eyelid ptosis. In addition to excess skin, as the eyebrows drooped, they pushed down into the eyelid folds and caused them to overlap and obscure the eye openings. Eyelid ptosis also occurred as the muscles in the eyelids responsible for opening the eyes stretched and relaxed over time and no held the eyelids up.
To address the brow ptosis, dermatochalasis, and eyelid ptosis, Dr. Phan recommended brow lift, blepharoplasty and ptosis repair, respectively. Because the patient was primarily concerned about the heavy hooding, he elected to proceed with brow lift and blepharoplasty. Given the existing forehead wrinkles, the brow lift was performed through an incision placed within a natural forehead rhytid. (See blog for different brow lift techniques.)
Patient, pictured here 1 month post bilateral brow lift and blepharoplasty, demonstrated elevated brows and eyelid folds and eyes once again appearing more visible and refreshed. The incisions healed nicely and would continue to blend in further once the remaining discoloration resolved in the weeks to come.
For even brighter eyes, ptosis repair may be performed at later time.
