Case Details
This patient in his 70s presented with severe drooping of his upper eyelids.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted reduced levator function and only few millimeters of visible eye opening on each side. She recommended bilateral external ptosis repair. Incisions were made through the eyelid creases, and the levator muscles were shortened and tightened to help them function more effectively and elevate the upper eyelids. At the same time, minimal amount of excess skin was removed in order to limit worsening of the heavy skin folds, or dermatochalasis, that typically would be more noticeable after ptosis repair.
Patient, pictured here 1 month after bilateral external ptosis repair and conservative blepharoplasty, demonstrated wider, more open eyes and natural-appearing eyelid folds.
