Case Details
This patient presented with a biopsy-proven basal cell carcinoma at the center of the left lower eyelid. Dr. Phan recommended excision with immediate reconstruction on the same day. Two-thirds of the eyelid was removed in a full-thickness wedge fashion to ensure complete removal of the skin cancer. A muscle-skin flap from the lateral canthus and temple was then used to lengthen the eyelid, allowing the eyelid margin and lash line to be meticulously reapproximated with internal and external sutures.
Patient, pictured here 1 month after left lower eyelid basal cell carcinoma excision and reconstruction, demonstrated natural restoration of the eyelid, with preservation of the natural height, contour, and function of the lid. Mild residual inflammation would resolve in the weeks to come.
