Case Details
This patient in his 70s presented with concerns that he looked sleepy.
On evaluation, Dr. Phan noted upper eyelid ptosis and excess skin. The ptosis occurred due to thinning, stretching, and weakening of the muscles responsible for lifting the eyelids. The excess skin, or dermatochalasis, developed as the skin thinned, stretched, and became redundant over time. To address both the ptosis and dermatochalasis, Dr. Phan recommended bilateral external ptosis repair and blepharoplasty.
Incisions were made slightly higher than his natural creases to create natural-appearing double eyelids. Excess skin was removed, and the levator muscles were shortened and tightened to help open the eyes wider.
Patient, pictured here 1 month after bilateral external ptosis repair and blepharoplasty, demonstrated more engaging eyes with a natural result that did not appear overdone.
